Arlington, Va., (October 26, 2021)—NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield congratulating FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel on her nomination to be the commission’s chairwoman, Gigi Sohn on her nomination to serve as a commissioner on the FCC, and Alan Davidson on being nominated to be head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration:

“Throughout her tenure at the FCC, and before that as a senior staffer on Capitol Hill, Jessica Rosenworcel has been a tireless advocate for overcoming barriers to broadband access for all Americans. On behalf of NTCA’s members, I congratulate Acting Chairwoman Rosenworcel on her historic nomination as the commission’s first female permanent chair. We have long appreciated her focus on closing the digital divide, and, especially during the pandemic, to giving families and students greater ability to get and stay connected. We look forward to her confirmation and to continuing to work with her to advance these goals and sustain the progress already made in rural America and across the country.

“NTCA further congratulates Gigi Sohn on her nomination to the FCC. Throughout her career, whether in senior staff positions at the FCC or working on telecom policy in a variety of other ways, Gigi has consistently looked to level the playing field and get everyone, regardless of the obstacle before them, connected to better and more affordable broadband. We look forward to her confirmation and working with her in her new role on the commission,” said Bloomfield.

“NTCA also congratulates Alan Davidson on his nomination to serve as the administrator at NTIA. He will bring to the position a broad set of experiences and perspectives on tech and telecom policy, and with this background, he is well positioned to help take on the agency’s role in historic efforts to bridge the digital divide in coordination with the administration and other federal and state partners. NTCA welcomes the opportunity to collaborate further with NTIA on solving remaining connectivity challenges in rural America.”
