AWS (advanced wireless service)


A term the FCC uses to refer to an array of innovative wireless services, including wireless broadband Internet access. In 2003, the FCC authorized 90 MHz of spectrum in the 1710–1755 MHz and 2110–2155 MHz bands for AWS (commonly referred to as the 3G spectrum). In September 2004, the FCC further designated 20 MHz of spectrum in the 1915–1920 MHz, 1995–2000 MHz, 2020–2025 MHz and 2175–2180 MHz bands for AWS.
