In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Rural Utilities Service (RUS), the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) published Builder of the Past, Architect of the Future ... the History of the REA/RUS Telephone Loan Program in 2000.  This award-winning book details the unique history of the public/private partnership between community based telecom providers and the federal government.  This successful partnership was responsible for bringing modern telephone service into existence throughout rural America.
